life size toys

Over the last year, Will's been working with an organization here at the University called Engineer's Without Borders.  At some point we'd really like to do work that might take us overseas to live in a place that needs engineers to develop systems that make every day life cleaner, healthier, etc....the possibilities are really endless and it could mean doing almost anything. Haven't heard of EWB, check them out here

Directly from their website: "Engineers Without Borders - International facilitates links and collaboration among its member groups toward improving the quality of life of disadvantaged communities worldwide through education and implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while promoting new dimensions of experience for engineers, engineering students, and similarly motivated non-engineers."

We have no idea what or when that might be, or if we will ever even work directly with this organization, so for now Will works with this group to keep up with what's going on and to raise money for projects the organization currently has operating all over the world, including raising money for the chapter here at the university.

Sooo....rewind to a couple months ago...

What happens when a bunch of people who like to put stuff together and take it apart get together...and figure out a way to raise money?

They build something....like soapbox cars. As in Little Rascals style.  And they race them...and wreck them...and charge people money to do it. And it's really fun.

I'll admit, I was slightly skeptical. In case you don't know, it's flat here. I was like, "yeah, that's a great idea...in ________ (insert place with some degree of incline). But it turns out there are some (however slight) "hills" in the area that work pretty well for derby racing.

It's going to (hopefully) be an annual event. If you live close to us next year you should come by and support a great cause...and just because it's fun and they have food :)

Cause seriously...who wouldn't want to ride in this???

Or this...can you imagine the road rash you'd get crashing this thing?

Now me,  I just did a lot of this...

For some reason, Trouser didn't want to ride in the cars...Imagine that. Yeah, he's not quite as cool as Petey.
